lawns are high maintenance but if you want one so be it.lawns love hot weather and love water especially kikuyu.sow a drought tolerant lawn seed .top dress with a fertiliser high in phosphorus to create a good root system and water in.when its established try watering it only once a week to create a good strong root system that can tolerate little water.so its not going to die if you forget to water or go away.enjoy

Well…Lawns do require maintenance and care. But it can be done with minimal work.
Use bermuda sod since it is drought tolerant and requires less maintenance. There are many hybrids that look really good. Tifgreen, Tifway, Santa Ana and the newest is Princess77. Call your local nursery for more information.
Install a sprinkler system with a good timer. You can get away with watering twice per week during the hot summer months…about 15-20 minutes each time. Check out the yellow pages for a good installer.
If you want it to look good fertilize at least once per month. Use a broadcast spreader since this will spread it out evenly
Do NOT fertilize in winter. Fertilizer bag should have a analysis of about 16-8-8. Keep weeds out with a good weed and feed fertilizer or do what I do…Pull out by manual labor
Mow twice per month make sure blades are sharp and rake afterwards.
Oh…remember bermuda grass goes dormant in the winter…which means it looks brown during the cold months.
You didn’t state what zone you live in. How about using a native ground cover instead of grass? This would eliminate the need to mow, water, etc. Easier for you; better for the environment.
