Advice on planting a container garden on my deck?
I have a 20′ x 10′ deck in full sun. I’d love to do a container garden on it. I live in central Illinois. What vegetables should I grow? Thanks.

From what I know, a 5 gallon container or bigger is suitable for most veggies and flowers. The south side of the house is the sunniest and great for many plants. Use any regular potting soil, mix 1/6 of the container amount with compost or sterile manure into the mix, Check the watering needs of the various plants you want. Have a great garden.http://www.gardenguides.com/how-to/tipstechniques/containerindoor/container.asp here’s a start.

Veggies are fine… tomatos, peppers, cantaloupe… things you generally grow that like heat… all do well in containers…

Herbs are another area suited to container growing. Basil, parsley, majoram, thyme, oregano… all great herbs, all suited to containers… and many many more too!! Best part, one container can hold enough of all of these herbs to keep you in fresh stock all summer!

    Hope this helps!
